At Home Microdermabrasion Systems

Microdermabrasion is a costmetic procedure that is popular in spas. During this procedure, the outer layer of dead skin is removed by using light abrasive materials. A special material is usually applied, then the skin is sloughed off using a wand, hand mitts, or other utensils.

Microdermabrasion is generally relatively painless and doesn't require any anesthetic. It is used to remove or lessen scars, acne, dark spots, and other skin issues.

Due to the popularity of the treatments, home microdermabrasion kits have been made and are now widely available. The most popular home microdermabrasion system is the Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Microdermabrasion System. This is a very popular choice because it is relatively inexpensive, very easy to use, and remarkably effective for a home system.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is generally performed using tiny crystals that are blasted onto the skin. This helps to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells. But newer microdermabrasion systems called diamond microdermabrasion systems elimiate the need to use crystals.

Diamond microdermabrasion machines use a diamond-tipped head to exfoliate the skin. This is somewhat like using sandpaper, whereas using crystal microdermabrasion is more like sand blasting.

Although these machines are generally far more effective than any home microdermabrasion system, their cost is extremely prohibitive. These machines can fun anywhere from $400 or so up to $1500 or more. This is why they are mostly used by professionals and aren't usually used at home.

Some people do buy these machines for home use, but only when there is significant scarring or severe acne that would require multiple treatments, making it more cost-effective to purchase one of these systems rather than visiting a spa or dermatologist over and over for treatments.
