Cure For Snoring

Common Snoring Causes

In order to get rid of snoring, the most important step is to find out why you're snoring. If you can't figure out why you're snoring, you can't treat your snoring! you must treat the causes, not the symptoms.

Snoring can be caused by many different things. Dry nasal passages, clogged nose due to colds or allergies, alcohol use, thicken tissues in the nasal passages, excess fat around the neck due to obesity, smoking which can inflame and dry out nasal passages, the tongue falling back into the throat and blocking airflow, the use of medications that can cause extreme relaxation, and several other things are common causes of snoring.

Snoring Pillow

Special pillows are made that may help reduce snoring. These pillows, such as the No Snore Pillow, may help keep the body positioned in a way that keeps the airways open. Although these snore pillows can't work for everyone because snoring can be caused by different things, most people do find these pillows are effective at reducing their snoring if not eliminating it completely.

Natural Remedies for Snoring Prevention

Here are a few ways you can reduce or eliminate our snoring using natural methods:

  1. Lose weight.
  2. Stop smoking.
  3. Don't drink alcohol, especially within 3 hours of bedtime.
  4. Don't use sleep aids.
  5. Treat allergies.
  6. Elevate the head of your bed with boards or bricks.
  7. Use a special pillow to elevate your upper body.
  8. Keep your nasal passages moist with a humidifier.
  9. Don't sleep on your back.

Snoring Surgery

Sometimes snoring is caused by defects within the throat or airways. When this happens, surgery is often needed.

One type of snoring surgery is laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty, or LAUP. When the uvula that hangs down in the back of the throat is enlarged, inflamed, or deformed, this type of surgery may be able to correct it. A less advanced form called Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, also called UPPP, may also be attempted.

Another common snoring surgery is samnoplasty, also called radio frequency tissue ablation. This is a type of surgery that actually removes part of the uvula, making air flow more freely through the airways.

Since surgery is expensive, potentially painful, and has the risk of complications, it is considered a last resort only to be used if other treatments don't work.

I would definitely recommend a snoring pillow.

Surgery - quite simple procedure yes but still a surgery and expensive

Devices - usually goes into mouth (duh) and can be uncomfortable

Pillows - definitely comfortable and usually pretty effective too.
